Structural Engineer (EIT)

Classic Engineering is a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based consulting engineering firm established in 1998.

Throughout Michigan, the Midwest and around the country, Classic Engineering’s work on thousands of projects over 25 years can be found “in the bones” of all categories of buildings. Our portfolio of work includes hotels, health care facilities, commercial and residential construction, multi-family, senior and independent-living projects, educational, government and church buildings.

We are currently looking for a Structural Engineer in Training to join our team. The ideal candidate will have an interest in engineering and drafting/modeling of structural projects. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for developing as a structural engineer are a must.

Education:

  • Minimum BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering.

Certifications:

  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong grasp of structural analysis including free-body diagrams, truss analysis, column and beam analysis.

  • Some course work or employment experience involving structural design of materials including steel and concrete.  Wood, masonry and cold form framing experience helpful.

  • Revit Experience

  • Experience with RAM, Risa, Enercalc or other structural modeling and analysis software.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzing and sizing structural systems and members with hand calculations, spreadsheets and structural software.

  • Drafting and modeling structural projects in Revit to prepare construction documents.

  • Ask questions of other engineers to help with decision-making.

  • Review and respond to requests of information (RFIs).

  • Review and respond to shop drawing submittals.

  • Assist in developing Revit office standards and families.

  • Communicate in a professional manner.

  • Manage time and tasks efficiently to meet project deadlines.

Compensation:

  • Salary will be commensurate with candidate experience.

  • Range $60,000 - $80,000 per year.
